 Reforming Harmful Subsidies

September 6th

Session Description

Reforming or removing subsidies that are harmful to nature has been a priority for nature conservation for many years and was a specific target in the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) strategic targets. However, changing subsidies has proven very challenging as many are either hidden in other taxes and regulations and most subsidies have beneficiaries who are very reluctant to lose this government support. This session will explore recent efforts to document harmful subsidies for nature and will discuss options for making lasting and effective change.
