Sustainable Landscape Finance Coalition

The Sustainable Landscape Finance Coalition is a catalytic and innovative driving force for the creation of landscape finance solutions for effective and enduring conservation landscapes in South Africa and across Africa. The Coalition addresses the urgent need for the development of additional finance for sustainable landscapes. It supports a growing regional network for collaborative stakeholder and partner engagement to foster a cohesive landscape finance sector.

The global financial underspend on environmental efforts is well recognised. South Africa and Africa as a region are no exception and currently face substantial financial shortfalls in financing and resourcing to effectively address environmental and social challenges. Sustainable landscapes underpin human health and well-being as well as sustainable and resilient economies. They contribute significantly to the SDGs: raising employment, safeguarding access to clean water, ensuring environmental sustainability and resilience to future shocks, and increasing the amount of land and oceans under protection. However, they require adequate and sustainable financing to continue fostering these benefits.

The Coalition was launched in partnership by Wilderness Foundation Africa and WWF SA and works alongside key decision-makers from public, private, and civil society sectors through its Council and a network of stakeholders through its Innovation Hub. The Coalition's four-stage Finance Solution Approach © is used to drive the development and practical implementation of new finance solutions across landscapes. The WWF Nedbank Green Trust is thanked for its foundational funding support. Please note that when joining or following the Coalition you accept its IP open source policy and terms of use and engagement.
